RN Covid Screener
Transcripts (official / unofficial) MUST be submitted by each applicant to meet basic qualifications of this position. The RN Covid Screener will assist in secondary screening and evaluation of patients identified at the primary screening area needing further evaluation. Will document in CPRS (electronic medical record) any additional evaluation performed at secondary screening to include a temperature and O2 saturation, and any other vital signs required/performed. Will swab symptomatic and asymptomatic patients presenting to the external COVID operations area and assist with patient disposition. Will provide patients with discharge instructions and any prescribed medications deemed necessary by ordering provider. Will communicate with primary screeners, COVID-19 ED staff, admissions and any other medical services concerning incoming patients, their disposition needs and requirements. Will utilize clinical lead and other clinicians as back up in decision-making concerning the evaluation and disposition of patients. Will oversee and direct the associated nursing assistants (NAs) and MSAs assigned to the external COVID operations in absence of the provider. Will monitor all testing supplies including PPE and equipment and report any issues to the clinical lead. Will monitor scheduling of patients directed for both asymptomatic and symptomatic COVID-19 testing. Will transport STAT specimens to the lab in absence of LNA/MSA. Occasional phlebotomy may be required on a person under investigation (PUI) that is not allowed in the facility. Will help train any new staff assigned to the external COVID- 19 operations area and ensure all requirements are met before new personnel begin testing. Performs other related duties as assigned by clinical lead or provider on duty. May be responsible for triaging calls from Veterans and carry a pager. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
